In 1838, “Le Producteur, journal des intérêts spéciaux de la propriété vignoble du département de la Gironde” declared that many growths in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne were worth the second fourth growths, with a value of 450 to 500 francs per barrel. This important detail explains why one finds within this small village several properties of note, including, at the place known as Roudey, château Bel-Orme-Tronquoy-de-Lalande. It was during the 19th century that the Tronquoy de Lalande family did a great deal for this growth, leaving their name on it.
The plans of the château were drawn by Victor Louis, whose renown at that time was very great since he built, among other things, the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux and the arcades of the Palais Royal in Paris; it is therefore a building of character that stands out particularly, with a circular salon.
The Delor family bought this growth at the beginning of this century and M. Paul Quié acquired it in 1936. To this day, it is his heirs who manage and run this exemplary estate.
The château Bel-Orme-Tronquoy-de-Lalande vineyard is made up of three main plots that “look at the river”: one of deep gravel, another of medium gravel (4 to 7 metres thick) and the last of slightly clayey gravel. Its area can be extended up to 30 hectares.
The wines of château Bel-Orme-Tronquoy-de-Lalande are distinguished by a dark colour with a tannic structure and plenty of fruit that ensure they hold up very well as they age.
The Paul Quié heirs also own the estate of château Croizet-Bages, Cinquième Cru Classé in Pauillac, as well as the estate of château Rauzan-Gassies in Margaux, classified as a Deuxième Cru.
