At the place called La Tonnelle, the geographer of King Louis XIV, Monsieur Masse, already indicated a vineyard in 1707. Later, Château La Tonnelle was formerly part of the fine Picourneau estate. The latter was already listed in 1850, in the first edition of our work, at the head of the commune of Vertheuil. This renown was confirmed in 1875 and in subsequent editions.
In 1982, Vincent Fabre, son of winegrowers for several generations, developed this estate. Located on the upper part of the commune, the vineyard benefits from excellent drainage. Vinification is carried out in a modern vat room allowing precise control of fermentations, ageing takes place in barrels, and the whole production is bottled by the owners themselves.
Les Domaines Fabre also run Châteaux Lamothe-Cissac and Landat in the same commune, as well as Château Bellevue de Tayac in the Margaux AOC.
