It seems that the Bernard family never left the commune of Gaillan. In 1898, six crus artisans had a member of the family as owner.
Christian Bernard, who succeeded his father Guillaume in 1970, first restructured his vineyard to make it a single block of cultivation. He began vinifying his wine in 1976.
From that time, he had a precise idea of the wines he wished to produce. B. Ginestet described them in 1989 as “easy-drinking and likeable”. Since then, he has never ceased to improve their quality. Today, aged in barrels without being dominated by the oak, they show in great years a pleasant complexity.
The investments made in the cellars and the vineyard have enabled Christian Bernard to develop his vineyard. Gold medals at the Concours Général in Paris in 1989, 1995, 1997, 2000 and 2010, as well as a silver in 2005, have rewarded his efforts. Proud of his family heritage, Christian Bernard joined the union of the Crus Artisans du Médoc.
In June 2011, Anaïs Bernard took over the family estate. Trained at HEC and in agronomy for the technical side, she is counting on the enthusiasm of youth to develop the quality of the wines and carry it even higher. Her deep attachment to the terroir will, without a doubt, enable her to reach her goal.
