A Grande Seigneurie in the 15th century, it became, around 1700, the royal property of His Serene Highness Louis-Alexandre de Bourbon, Count of Toulouse and Grand Admiral of France, legitimised son of Louis XIV and Mme de Montespan. He sold it in 1726 to a Bordeaux gentleman, Jean Taffard, who left it his name.
It was under the name Château Taffard-de-Blaignan that it was classified as a Cru Bourgeois in 1932.
Today, Château Blaignan, situated on the heights of the commune, commands a superb estate.
The cultivation of the vine and the making of the wine are carried out in respect of the noblest traditions of the Médoc. Assiduous care is restoring to this vineyard the lustre it had in the mid-19th century. It ranks among the best Crus Bourgeois of its region.
