A noble house from the 14th century, this very ancient seigneurial property had illustrious owners: Sieur Fraimont de Josset in the 17th century, Jean Saubut, honorary councillor to the Seneschal of Guyenne, and Monsieur Luetkens, whose name remains attached to numerous Médoc vineyards. The latter had the house restored by the greatest architect in Bordeaux, Victor Louis, who at around the same time (1776) built the famous Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux.
In 1964, M. Joseph Touchais, a winegrower in the Loire, bought this estate, or what remained of it, since the vines had disappeared and the buildings were in ruins. His son Luc took over the running of the estate in 1973, restored it and replanted little by little to reach a wine estate of 18 hectares in the midst of a vast wooded domain.
Since 2005 his son Lionel, an oenologist by training, has taken the reins of the estate and thus ensures a fine future for château Balac.
Located on a very sunny gravel rise that has long made the reputation of this growth, the estate enjoys a privileged position on the main Bordeaux-Soulac road, close to the classified Grands Crus of the Médoc.
Entirely overseen by Lionel Touchais, vinification is carried out using the traditional method with temperature control for maximum extraction of aromas and tannins, combined with daily pumping over. Ageing takes place in oak barrels, part of which are renewed each year.
The wine is characterised by a deep ruby colour. The nose, focused on fruit, also shows slightly roasted nuances. The attack, supple and fleshy, is dominated by freshness. The mid-palate is structuring thanks to elegant tannins, which also bring a soft and suave finish.
This wine will be much appreciated with all red and white meats. Thanks to its very fruity aromas, it will easily accompany the whole meal.
