Located in Léognan, the capital of the Graves, Domaine de Chevalier is of very ancient origin. It appears in 1763 under the name “Chibaley” (chevalier in Gascon) on the map of the geographer-engineer Pierre de Belleyme.
The very notion of a domaine, deliberately kept by successive owners who never wished to abandon it in favour of the more recent term “château”, is the legacy of a long and very rich history, evocative of that balance of which the present master of the house is today the jealous guardian.
In 1983 the property was acquired by the Bernard family, French leaders in the spirits market and major négociants in the great wines of Bordeaux.
It has been managed since then by Olivier Bernard. In direct line with the history of Chevalier, he perpetuates the spirit of balance and pursuit of perfection that has, for more than 130 years, marked the production of this cru of excellence.
Today, a secret garden protected by the immense forest that surrounds it, the estate has become a remarkably open place where the visitor wishing to immerse themselves in the soul of the Graves can enjoy a long tradition of hospitality.
Domaine de Chevalier red, the flagship of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, belongs to the elite of the Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux. Domaine de Chevalier white, which is notable for being a remarkable wine for laying down, is recognised as one of the greatest dry white wines in the world.
