The estate

In brief

Founded in the 14th century by the Durfort de Duras family, the estate remained in the same family until the 19th century. In 1824, the Vicomte de Vivens added his name to that of the Durfort. Already celebrated by Thomas Jefferson at the end of the 18th century, the estate was recognised again in 1855, when it was ranked among the first Second Growths.
Lucien Lurton acquired Château Durfort-Vivens in 1961. It is now run by his son Gonzague.
An in-depth knowledge of the terroir and a viticulture that respects ecological balance make it possible to obtain perfectly ripe grapes of great character. The technical equipment, designed to have a minimal environmental impact, was conceived entirely to serve the optimal expression of each of the estate’s micro-terroirs. The wooden or concrete fermentation vats are thus sized to suit the estate’s plots. Ageing takes place in cellars where temperature and humidity are naturally controlled.
A great terroir, cutting-edge technology and respect for the environment come together to make Château Durfort-Vivens a truly unique wine.
