About
Included in the 2000-2006 Government-Region plan contract and supported by the Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2 University, the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences brings together all the research, training and technology transfer teams in the wine industry:
- Bordeaux 1 University, sciences & techniques ;
- University Segalen Bordeaux 2, Life Sciences and Health;
- Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux 3 University, Humanities and Social Sciences;
- University Montesquieu Bordeaux 4, Law and Economics;
- the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA);
- Bordeaux Sciences Agro (formerly the École nationale d'ingénieurs des travaux agricoles de Bordeaux* - ENITAB);
- Kedge Business School.
A building of more than 10,000 m² on the INRA site in Villenave d'Ornon houses the research teams and nearly 300 students. It opened its doors in January 2009.
More than 60% of the program was financed by the Aquitaine Regional Council, as well as by the European Union (ERDF), the French Government, the Gironde General Council, the Bordeaux Urban Community, INRA and the CIVB.
ISVV Bordeaux Aquitaine, the center of excellence recognized in France and abroad, for its training courses adapted to the full range of professions in the wine and vine industry.
In 2014, the reorganization of the Bordeaux University led to a different structuring of the training and research components and a merger of the activities of the university's oenology with those of the ISVV. This institute is now responsible for managing and leading all academic vine and wine training programs.
To meet the needs of the industry, the ISVV offers a wide range of technical training courses.
Training is one of the pillars of the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences; it includes all the training courses related to vine and wine.
Within the University of Bordeaux and in collaboration with its partners (University Michel Montaigne, Bordeaux Sciences Agro and KEDGE), the ISVV brings together a teaching community of more than 80 people, on topics ranging from plant biology to vine and wine law, as well as oenology and wine and spirits marketing. The training provided benefits from the excellent level of research carried out by the ISVV teams and their transfers.
Professors and students have access to an exceptional technical platform: state-of-the-art analytical equipment, cellars, tasting rooms, etc., as well as access to the library's documentary resources and digital databases within the ISVV.
