In September 2019, Maltese-Canadian couple Sean and Suzanne Legault bought the 7 hectares of Château Haut-Bernat in Puisseguin Saint-Émilion from Dominique Bessineau. The new owner, who works in education and the hotel trade, is passionate about Saint-Émilion wines. His aim is to continue the development of this cru, which Dominique Bessineau began thirty years ago. With the same technical team and as a consultant, he is investing in the vines (replanting) as well as in the cellars (Italian amphorae, small-capacity wooden tuns), thus initiating a change and developing silky, fine and elegant wines. Convinced that good wine is made in the vineyard, Sean Legault is continuing the environmental approach begun in 2018. Since 2019, mating disruption has been used to limit the use of insecticides, which will be phased out in 2021. 50 ares of Cabernet franc have just been replanted to add a certain complexity to the wine.
