Château des Annereaux, an emblematic figure in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, has been in the hands of the same family for over six centuries. The Annereau family, one of the oldest in the commune and which gave its name to the locality, appears in the history of the region around 1390. From that time onwards, they established and developed their vineyards around the family home, passing it on to twenty successive generations. The château is a former 16th-century manor house that was completely remodelled in the early 20th century in the style of an Italian villa. Benjamin Hessel is the custodian of this long tradition, and now manages the estate with the aim of making the most of the expression of a terroir of great lineage. The vineyard, a single block, occupies a plateau with gravelly and sandy-gravelly soil from the Middle Pleistocene (Riss formation) that is well-drained and easily warmed, making it particularly well-suited to producing a high-quality harvest. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, no effort is spared to ensure the balance of a natural production, with the greatest possible respect for the environment. The wines of Château des Annereaux are appreciated by connoisseurs for their vigour and finesse. With its remarkable fruity expression and delicate velvety texture, it is one of the most typical wines of its appellation. The estate has been certified organic since 2007.
