This historic estate, whose plots were located in the ‘Pétrus’ and ‘La Fleur’ districts, took its name in the 18th century. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who had been based in Libourne since 1937, recognised the excellent quality of the Pomerol appellation very early on. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was his very first acquisition in 1950. The personality of Château La Fleur-Pétrus lies in the combination of the great gravel and clay soils of the Pomerol plateau. The vineyard, at an altitude of between 33 and 38 metres, draws its identity from the nuances of the soil and the elevation. The predominantly gravelly plots lend great elegance, while the predominantly clayey plots produce velvety, dense, well-structured wines. Together, they combine the elegance characteristic of the cru with the generosity and structure typical of the great wines of Pomerol. Careful tasting reveals remarkable finesse and complexity, with a hint of violet.
