The estate

In brief

In the 12th century, Château de La Commanderie in Lalande-de-Pomerol in Gironde, north-east of Bordeaux, was the property of the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem and provided accommodation for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Their mission was to protect the pilgrims from gangs of thieves.

In 2019, Karine and Jean de Colbert acquired the property in theLalande-de-Pomerol appellation.

The property covers 39 hectares, of which 29 hectares are planted with vines. The vineyard surrounds the property.

The entire vineyard is made up of two types of soil: the upper part is on gravelly sandy soilsandy gravel on variegated sandy clay, and the middle and lower part on sandy gravel on deep clayey sand. When the vineyard is taken over in 2019, the soil will be worked in fulland grassed every other row, and the treatments are approved organic.
