Château du Glana is located on the Route des Grands Vins along the Gironde estuary, between Beychevelle and Saint-Julien, opposite the famous Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. The château was built in 1870 by Mr Nadeau, architect for the town of Blaye, on behalf of Mr Cayx. At the time, the vineyard terraces were the result of the amalgamation of various plots of land separated from Château Saint-Pierre, and the vineyard did not exceed 5 hectares. Following various transfers, in 1961 Mr Gabriel Meffre bought Château du Glana, and over the next few years increased the size of the vineyard to 43 hectares through the successive acquisition of several plots belonging to Château Lagrange, a Third Growth Classé.
The gravelly soils resting on subsoils of alios, all by nature harmoniously constituted, are entirely planted with meticulously selected grape varieties and rootstocks. The most precious care taken, both in the vineyard and in the winemaking, the judicious balance between modern techniques and respect for tradition, have contributed to the reputation of the cru, which was classified “Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel” in the 1978 classification.
