Canon-Fronsac
rouge • 300 ha
Privileged both climatically and geographically by its position at the confluence of the Isle and Dordogne rivers, the Canon-Fronsac appellation has always been prosperous. But the genius of three notables, Boyer, Lafon and Mathieu, has given it its great reputation.
Around the 1750s, these three men initiated a winegrowing revolution by introducing new agronomic and technical concepts into their vineyards. It was with them that the notion of "Cru" and later "Château" appeared for the first time in the Libourne region.
In Fronsac and Saint-Michel de Fronsac, the beautiful limestone hillsides of the terroir accompany the opulent plain of the Dordogne and extend northwards their valleys dotted with châteaux often hidden in the middle of shady parks or Romanesque churches nestling in the hollows of villages. The small surface area of the appellation reveals a large geological unit, made up of a subsoil of asteriated limestone. It is one of the most beautiful wine-growing landscapes in Bordeaux.

About the wines
The red wines of Canon Fronsac are born from the blending of three grape varieties of character: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which together give the wines their uniqueness. Combining finesse and intensity, refinement and power, they have the particularity of being able to be drunk young and on the fruit, while having a surprising potential for ageing.
