Already a hundred years! Louis Soualle, the de Bailliencourts’ great grandfather, bought Château Gazin from Léon Quenedey in September 1918, during the vintage. The history of Gazin is inextricably entwined with that of Pomerol. The vineyard’s fine reputation dates back to the time when it belonged to the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes, and of Malta. Merlot – Pomerol’s indisputably leading grape variety – did the rest starting in the 18th century. Four fifths of the commune of Pomerol were already under vine at the time. Since they acquired Gazin, the de Bailliencourt family have patiently done their utmost to confirm the wine’s position as as one of the very best in the appellation. They invite you to discover the magic born of their passion.
